Title: NRG Meeting: Characterization of Outbreak histograms and Network
Inference (Bashir Rastegarpanah)
Characterization of Outbreak histograms and Network Inference
"Graph diffusion processes are widely used to study many real-world
scenarios. In particular, they are used to model information propagation in
online media or the spread of behaviors and diseases through communities.
Usually, no details are known about the structure of the underlying network
in which an observed diffusion takes place. Network inference is therefore
a fundamental problem because it enables practitioners in various
disciplines to predict and possibly control future diffusions.
In this talk, I will address the problem of inferring structural properties
of diffusion networks where the only available information consists of time
series of counts of newly infected nodes. First, I will introduce several
parametric models that can be used to characterize outbreak histograms. I
will explain how we can use these models to obtain a non-linear embedding
of spreading processes. Finally, I will show some interesting observations
that suggest a novel approach to the network inference problem."
