Title: NRG meeting: Mechanism design with uncertainty
It's Christine's PhD Oral Exam.

Presenter: Christine Bassem

Abstract:
Providing crowdsourcing services on-demand is an interesting problem, which
adds complexity to the classical task allocation problem. Providing
human-based services, as these provided in crowdsourcing systems, requires
algorithms/mechanisms that consider the player’s incentive to perform a
task, as well as his uncertainty of completing that task. In this talk, I
will present the different notions of uncertainty in mechanism design, and
how they apply to crowdsourcing. I will focus on two different notions of
uncertainty; the uncertainty of job completion of workers in a task
allocation problem, and the uncertainty of job length in a single processor
scheduling problem. In details, I will discuss the main results in
mechanism design literature proposed to handle these two specific models of
uncertainty.
