Subject: Funding Opportunity: Information on DOD Minerva program

Good afternoon all:

The Department of Defense (DOD) will release tomorrow its Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) for the Minerva Research Initiative, the agency’s signature social science research program. Minerva aims to provide DOD with a better understanding of the factors influencing the geopolitical environment in which it operates. This year, the agency is launching a new website for the initiative. While the site isn’t fully functional yet, it does have the topics of interest for this year’s solicitation:

• General Interest Area: Sociality, Security, and Interconnectivity
• Special Interest Area 1: Understanding the Social Impact of Autonomy
• Special Interest Area 2: Societal Resilience and Sociopolitical (In)stability
• Special Interest Area 3: Power and Deterrence for Shaping Operations
• Special Interest Area 4: Military Cyber Defense

White papers are due March 21, and full proposals, if invited, will be due June 21. The new site can be found here:http://minerva.defense.gov/Research/Research-Priorities/

Please circulate to interested faculty.

Thank you,
Emily
