I will be starting a drone racing club at the beginning of the summer once
exams have been completed for those who are interested in joining. This
club will be about racing drones, as well as the engineering and methods
involved in building and modifying your own drone.
We will be racing first person view (FPV) micro quad-copters mainly based
off the popular Tinywhoop <https://www.tinywhoop.com/> and their ability to
be flown indoors. Races will be weekly.
Racing will be accompanied by bi-weekly drone hacking meetings. Here we
will learn and share about the engineering and designs of racing drones and
how to perform modifications and repairs. You will get hands on experience
designing models to be 3D printing (through EPIC
<http://www.bu.edu/eng/current-students/epic/> at BU), soldering, and
For those interested and new to drone racing you can get a ready-to-fly
micro drone for under $100 but you'll quickly want to upgrade your setup to
FPV for about $200 more. If you build your own and take advantage of the 3D
printers at EPIC you can do it even cheaper.
Here's some footage of tinywhoop racing, https://www.youtube.
If you are interested or have questions please don't hesitate to contact me!
