Hi Boston Data Miners,

Wanted to let everyone know about some great hackathons coming up at
hack/reduce.

   -
*IBM InfoSphere® Streams Real-Time Data Hackathon *

*Big Data and Real-Time Use Cases - January 25th Hack to learn more about
real-time streaming data. This hackathon provides participants an
opportunity to identify and extend applications leveraging streaming data
to solve real world problems with IBM InfoSphere® Streams, an advanced
computing platform that allows user-developed applications to quickly
ingest, analyze, and correlate information as it arrives from real-time
sources. Streams has a similar architecture to Storm to handle streaming
data across a clustered runtime. Developed by IBM over the last 10 years,
it includes visual IDE, many analytic toolkits and adapters, management
API's and visual interfaces. We will have a variety of data sets ready,
spanning use cases such as enabling law enforcement, mining in
microseconds, and real-time analytics for the internet of things. We look
forward to seeing you there! >> REGISTER TO ATTEND

*American Energy Data Challenge “Apps for Energy II” Hackathon Hosted by
the U.S Department of Energy and hack/reduce - February, 15-16*

Join hack/reduce and the U.S Department of Energy for the American
Energy Data Challenge "Apps for Energy II" Hackathon to develop apps that
address some of America’s most important energy challenges.

Teams that participate in the hackathon and demo something they built
will be eligible to win prizes. Additionally, teams can continue to work on
their app and submit it to the Department of Energy’s American Energy Data
Challenge by March 9, 2014 to be eligible for the big cash prize pot -
   over $70,000 in total prizes!

For the weekend hackathon at hack/reduce, there will be a total of
$1,500 for the first place winner, and $1,000 for the second place winners.
More information is available here: http://energychallenge.energy.gov.
